Tiling 101!

“So confused on my floor tile selections! Kathleen help with my tile layout ideas, there are too many great choices.”

I hear this a lot. In every project a lot of time is spent on designing and sourcing the perfect tile(s) for every room. Every tile selection is chosen to complete the overall specified design. Check out these tips for your next tile design inspiration.

Here are a few tile layout ideas to consider:

Size Does Matter-

The larger the tile the less busy it will look over-all. Smaller tiles create more movement. Larger tiles ground the space and make a grander impact.

Colour and Pattern-

Remember to see more than just one tile sample together.  Every tile design can inspire a different effect.  Tile stores have full boards, or view the pattern on line so you can really see the impact the tile design will make.

Creating a Focal Point-

Be specific when selecting these tile layout ideas. When choosing a tile design to create a focal point, the eye will be drawn to that area the minute one enters the space. Also, make sure that other design elements will not interfere with this tile design.

Texture and Shine-

With shiny tile light bounces off it, and opens up space.  Matt or texture tiles will absorb light, making a space more moody or earthy.

Tile Layout-

Simple stacking pattern looks modern, while brick pattern looks more traditional.  It is important to know how you want the space to look, so you can design the correct tile layout.
