Your Laundry is Waiting!

Laundry Room Design

When designing a laundry room remodel it’s important to create a laundry room design that merges functionality with your individual personal design style.

Here are five top tips to help maximize your laundry room design remodel:

1.Optimize Storage Solutions:

Start with placing both upper and lower cabinets around the washer and dryer, and consider a sink base cabinet if this optional is available. Above the washer, floating shelves with baskets for storage are a nice lighter option. Then consider tall vertical deep cabinets or pantries with doors, to keep supplies organized and out of sight. Or choose tall open metal shelves in the laundry room design for more display of fun décor and everyday laundry items.

2.Choose Durable Materials:

The laundry room is full of activity and is prone to spills and moisture concerns. So selecting resilient materials that can withstand wear and tear will extend your laundry room design. When choosing flooring, opt for waterproof options like vinyl or tile, and select patterns or colors that help conceal dirt.  Other surfaces such as countertops can be quartz solid surface or premium designer laminate for easy clean-up. Durability is the key!

3.Incorporate Efficient Lighting:

Don’t overlook the importance of an optimal lighting plan for your laundry room design. A simple design tip is to layer the four lighting options. So, ensure your laundry room is well-lit with a combination of ceiling LED pot lights and task lighting. Pot lights offer general illumination, which is important when the laundry room is in the lower level of the home. Consider direct pendant lights and under-cabinet lighting if these options are in the budget.

4.Create Folding and Hanging Areas:

Laundry duties are performed easier, when space is allocated for both folding and hanging of clean garments.  Consider a designated countertop for sorting and folding all laundry. This area should be convenient and large enough to handle multiple loads. For the option of hanging items to dry, install a rod in between upper cabinets in your laundry room design.  Larger retractable wall drying racks work well too.  Check out our Home St Laundry Room Project  to see these options.

5.Add Personal Touches:

Making the laundry room design feel welcoming and less utilitarian is easy by adding your interior decorating touches. Incorporate color, art work, and other decorative elements that reflect your personal design style. Making this room apart of the home, ensures laundry chores are more enjoyable.  Also, consider fun wallpaper, a stylish backsplash, and even plants.  Have fun with your laundry room design.
